Subgrade Inspectors and Consultants

Knowing the composition of the soil beneath a current building or a lot that is ready for construction is vital before new work begins. Whether a company is building a new business or upgrading an existing structure does not matter much until a subgrade inspection is complete. This testing is a necessary part of the permitting process in states like New Jersey and New York state. Most municipalities require the examination to be under the supervision of an expert like an architect or engineering development team.

Kagaoan Engineering is a team of highly skilled experts in fields like geotechnical engineering, site development, and architecture. We provide extensive testing, design, and construction for businesses in and around New York. From modeling to permit processing and material procurement, Kagaoan Engineering can help businesses with new buildings, extensions, foundation repair, piling installation, retaining wall builds, and more.

What is a Subgrade Inspection?

Many state and local governments require businesses to have an underground inspection before any upgrades, new structures, and paving begins. These checks ensure that the ground is ready for building. The architect checks the soil to ensure that there are no water problems, cracking earth, shifting material, or issues with ground composition. For the engineer to do the checks, the soil needs to be free of debris, weeds, big boulders, and any vegetation like trees, shrubs, and flowers. The subgrade inspector may use a variety of tools and testing equipment to find out the condition of the soil under the lot. For instance, a dynamic cone penetrometer helps the technician find out the strength of the underground layers and how much of a load the ground can withstand at any particular place.

An architect will perform any soil testing such as checking the composition of the ground, finding out the condition of the drainage system, and checking to see that winter weather like the freezing and thawing cycle did not disrupt the ground structure. The specialist will review the structure of the ground, whether cold conditions caused soil erosion, how the drainage system works and whether there are any contaminants or foreign materials that need extricating. Reports are given to property owners detailing things like how much the ground should shrink after building, what material makes up the subsurface layers, and what systems are in place to keep the land and structures stable. How the underground layers get rid of rainwater and moisture to keep the foundation in good health is another area that our geotechnical engineers inspect and report on for property owners.
